Kites In Space 7-9pm
Kites In Space formed in 2007 out of the ashes of another band. They spent the summer of 2008 recording what would become their self-titled debut album, released in September 2008. It’s available for download, entirely free of cost, at www.kitesinspace.com. Though it clocks in at only thirty-eight minutes, it is a solid and ambitious little album. Check it out, and stay tuned for more from Kites In Space.
Radio the Ape 9pm-12am
Radio the Ape was founded in 2005 by Trevor Scheer, Art Sullivan and Matt Ploss. They were in 7th grade at the time. What brought them together was not only a mutual love and appreciation of music, but the fact that they had been friends since elementary school. Art, Trevor, and Matt listened to music together, learned how to play their instruments together, and eventually started writing music together. With influences including Jack Johnson, Arctic Monkeys, and The Fratellis, the band found themselves writing primarily mellow, occasionally edgier, dance rock. “Our music has changed along with our tastes over the years,” agrees the band. Playing mostly in the Ithaca area, Radio the Ape fell into a schedule of writing and rehearsing music during the school year, and recording what they could over the summer. This recording process was made easier with the help of Chris Ploss (FLUXUS, Kites In Space, and Matt”s older brother), who has singlehandedly recorded and produced all of Radio the Ape”s music to date. Most recently, the band has grown in size with the addition of second guitarist and bassist Jacob Kotler.
